Sittin’ on the Dock of the --- Lake

Sittin’ on the dock of the --- lake

Although the next line in the song says you will be “wasting time,” that’s not true when you visit Minnesota. Contrary to popular belief, there are no igloos and it doesn’t always snow. Another falsehood is that Minnesota is the Land of 10,000 lakes. I am here to tell you that that is an understatement! Truth is, Minnesota has 21,871 lakes that are 2.5 acres or more.  When we moved here in 2014, I had no idea that there were so many lakes with clean, beautiful water. I didn’t think that anywhere could compete with my California memories!

Growing up in Sacramento meant that we would spend lots of time “up north” in the summertime to get that high altitude tan. Using baby oil and Even Up™ was our best attempt to accelerate the sunshine’s ability to transform us into bronzed beauties. Tubing, partying on the boat and beach was always the mainstay of our Tahoe summers. I have such fond memories of those days with my girlfriends! The trip to Lake Tahoe for us was about 2 hours and it was the closest place to go. Here in Minnesota, I only need to drive about 20 minutes in any direction and I find a lake!

Last year for our wedding anniversary, we took a trip “up north”. First we drove to the North Shore of Lake Superior, and then drove about two hours west and stayed at the Grand View Lodge because we had been told by everyone that we needed to check it out. The recommendations did not disappoint! During our romantic getaway, I couldn’t help but daydream about what a blast it would be to come back again with some girlfriends. The spa would be so relaxing and much needed. Renting paddle boards is one of my favorite ways to exercise first thing in the morning. And who can resist a cruise in a pontoon boat on the lake to end the evening with beer, cocktail or wine tasting?

Oh! Did I tell you that my Sacramento friends are coming for girls weekend in September? We just planned it. We decided we’re going to stay close to home and explore Stillwater. I can't wait to tell you more as we get closer to the date. What have you planned for your girls weekend? I’ve love to hear about it! Please email me with your details here loopie@girlsweekendblog.com
