Girlfriends Go to Georgia

Raise your hand if you’ve visited Georgia. (We see 4 in the air here @My Girlfriendships®).

Now.

Raise your hand if you’ve visited Georgia with your girlfriends on a weekend getaway. (What?! No hands?)

If you and your crew are feeling it’s time to recharge, laugh, and chat in that easy, non-judgmental, anything-goes way we all need, My Girlfriendships thinks you should plan it now, and consider Atlanta or Helen as your destination.

Atlanta

We love Atlanta because it’s so easy to get to—there are 156 non-stop domestic flights into this beautiful city. Once you and your crew arrive, what’s there to do? Read on!

What to Do

  • IFly Atlanta  |  Have you ever wondered what it would be like to go skydiving, but not ready to jump out of a perfectly good plane? Well, IFly is the answer. Defy gravity and experience the sky diving feel only a couple of feet off the ground. Ready, set, Let’s Go girlfriends!

  • College Football Hall of Fame  |  Did we ever mention our love of college football? We can’t go to Atlanta and not visit the College Football Hall of Fame. We love how we get a fully interactive all-access pass for unique experiences, and lets us relive college game highlights over and over again. (We also love that its corporate sponsor is Chick-fil-A. They have the best waffle fries.) The Hall’s goal is to “educate, inspire, entertain, and connect audiences while honoring the people, traditions and passion of the game.”

Where to Stay

  • Independent Guest House  |  This airbnb is conveniently located next to Candler Park, close to Emory University and Midtown Atlanta. Our girlfriend's crew will have the entire guest house that is a beautifully landscaped home away from home. It’s received great reviews!

  • The Glenn Hotel  |  If you want to stay downtown, we recommend the Glenn Hotel. It’s in the heart of the city, and ideally placed near the CNN Center, State Farm Arena (for NBA fans), and Mercedes Benz Stadium (for football, both American and European)! Centennial Olympic Park still stands as a tribute to the 1996 Summer games, and of course there’s the headquarters of the world’s most popular caffeinated soft drink, Coca-Cola.

Helen

On the other end of the spectrum of the big city feel of Atlanta is Helen. Vineyards, state parks, waterfalls, and the Chattahoochee River offer days of girlfriend fun and adventure. Check out these activities:

What to Do

  • Oktoberfest  |  When we think of Oktoberfest, we usually imagine a month-long celebration in October. Not in Germany! There, Oktoberfest officially begins on the second to last Saturday in September. In Helen, the celebration begins on the second September Saturday, and runs through the first week of November.

Helen's Oktoberfest celebrations have been going on for 50 years, involving multiple weeks of traditional dancing, food, and of course, beer. Held in the city’s riverside Festhalle, the permanent home of the festivities, the celebration is the longest running of its kind in the United States.

  • Cool River Tubing  |  Cool River Tubing is not only a fun crew activity, but it’s also relaxing. The tubing excursions can be as short as one hour, or as long as two and half. No matter how long you tube, you’ll be experiencing the wonderful Chattahoochee River the entire time. Float and chat while you admire the Southern Appalachian outdoors.

Where to Stay

Staying in Helen? Here are two suggestions:

  • Unicoi Springs Camp Resort  |  Taking a girlfriend's cross-country RV trip, or just like to camp? Try this spot. The camping area is amid the northeast Georgia Mountains in the Unicoi National Park. You won’t be totally “roughing it”—they do offer wi-fi, rocking chairs, fireplaces, billiard tables, and comfy couches. The Coast to Coast System rates them a Five Star Resort!

  • The Heidi Motel  |  Staying with our Bavarian theme, The Heidi Motel & Windmill Suites is one of Helen’s oldest landmarks and within walking distance to all that Helen has to offer. We loved the option to stay in an authentic windmill suite! Click the link and check it out.

We look forward to seeing your arm in the air sometime in the near future when we ask you again, “Raise your hand if you’ve visited Georgia with your girlfriends on a weekend getaway.”
